How will I know when the notice is lifted?
The City of Winter Park lifted the boil water notice effective immediately on October 8. Rollins sent an R-Alert Thursday morning. Signage removal is happening throughout the day.

Have Cornell Campus Center operations resumed normal operations?
Yes. The salad bar will reopen for lunch on October 8.

Status: Water Service Interruption and Boil Water Notice – Wednesday, October 7, 10 a.m.

A water service interruption due to a water main break is still affecting portions of our campus. Rollins and Facilities Services are aware of the issue and are actively working to restore service as quickly as possible. The following areas are affected:

  • Annie Russell Theatre
  • Cornell Campus Center
  • Hooker Hall
  • Kathleen W. Rollins Hall (KWR)
  • Knowles Memorial Chapel
  • Lakeside Neighborhood
  • Lyman and Gale Halls
  • Pinehurst Cottage
  • Rollins Hall

The Lakeside Neighborhood walking path, between the Alfond Boathouse and the Cornell Campus Center, is closed to all pedestrian traffic.

  • Students living in Hooker and Rollins halls, and Pinehurst Cottage can pick up bottled water in their common areas.
  • Students living in Lakeside Neighborhood can pick up water near the Office of Residence Life.
  • The Cornell Campus Center remains open for dining on their regular schedule.

Rollins is still under a boil water notice. During this time, all water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or food preparation should be boiled before use.

The City of Winter Park will complete testing, and Rollins will provide an update. Please continue to check rollins.edu/emergency for the most updated information.

What should I do during the notice?
Use only boiled or bottled water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, food preparation, or washing dishes by hand.

How do I boil water?
Bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute. Allow it to cool naturally before using it. You can also boil water in the microwave. Boil one cup of water for 2 minutes. 2 cups of water for 2-4 minutes.

How will I know when the notice is lifted?
Campus Safety will notify the Rollins community by R-Alert when given all clear.

When will I receive the next update?
We will share our next update tomorrow, Thursday, October 8. Continue to monitor MyRollins and your Rollins email.

I live in an affected residence hall. Is bottled water available?

  • Students living in Hooker and Rollins halls, and Pinehurst Cottage can pick up bottled water in their common areas.
  • Students living in Lakeside Neighborhood can pick up water near the Office of Residence Life.

Residents can contact their Resident Assistant or the Office of Residence Life for questions.

Why do I need to boil water?
A boil water notice/alert is a standard protective measure when certain events, such as a water main break or loss of water pressure occur. This does not mean contamination is present, rather it reflects a commitment to adhering to rigorous state and federal public health protocols while mandatory testing takes place.

Can I shower or bathe?
Yes. It is safe to shower, bathe, and do laundry.

What if I have already swallowed water?
If you have swallowed water from your tap or a water fountain, drink a glass of bottled or cooled boiled water. Seek medical attention if you feel ill.

Can I use my dishwasher?
Dishwashers with a sanitizing cycle and high-heat final rinse are generally safe to use. If you are unsure whether your dishwasher has this feature, wash dishes by hand using water that has been boiled and cooled.

How are meals affected in the Cornell Campus Center on October 7-9?
The Cornell Campus Center remains open for dining on their regular schedule.

A water service interruption due to a water main break is affecting portions of our campus. Rollins and Facilities Services are aware of the issue and actively working to restore service as quickly as possible. The following areas are affected:

As a precaution, the campus is under a boil water notice. During this time, all water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or food preparation should be boiled before use.

Students who live in affected residence halls can pick up bottled water between 8 – 9:30 p.m. tonight in the Cornell Campus Center.
